Yutong Cao

Cao Yutong is a member of the Beijing Television Artists Association. She holds a Bachelor's degree in Directing from the Shanghai Theatre Academy and a Master's degree in Film Directing from Loyola Marymount University. Working across both China and the United States, she creates and directs a diverse range of works including stage plays, films, TV dramas, short series, documentaries, and music videos, with a style marked by narrative depth and visual tension.

As a stage director, her credits include Anna Christie, Tail, and Fortress Besieged. She has also served as assistant director on several TV series and feature films, such as the drama Undercover Policewoman and the feature film Sunshine Over Tashkurgan. Her films, which she both wrote and directed, have been selected by numerous prestigious film festivals at home and abroad.

Her short film The Lamp won Best Short Film Director at both the 2020 Canada Golden Maple Film Festival and the Vancouver Chinese Film Festival. In 2023, she received the Best Short Film Director Award from the Directors Guild of America (DGA) for her short film Drifting. Her short-form series projects have been released on multiple leading international platforms, garnering tens of millions of views.
