Shih-Hsuan Kuo
Shih-Hsuan Kuo is a Taiwanese cinematographer based in Los Angeles whose work blends cultural specificity with emotional depth. He began his filmmaking journey at a young age in Taiwan, where he worked on short films, documentaries, music videos, and commercials as a cinematographer and editor. These early hands-on experiences developed his technical instincts and deepened his passion for collaborative storytelling.
Kuo holds an MFA in Cinematography from Chapman University and has since shot over fifteen narrative shorts with directors from diverse backgrounds. These collaborations shaped his belief that cinematography is an act of deep listening—serving not only the visual needs of a story, but also the emotional and cultural nuances each director brings.
In 2024, Kuo was selected as one of four cinematographers in Issa Rae and Deniese Davis’s ColorCreative Find Your People Program. He also received the Panavision New Filmmaker Grant for his short film MOVE, and his work has screened at LA Shorts, Flickers' Rhode Island, Out On Film, and BronzeLens Film Festival.
Rooted in Taiwanese values of empathy and openness, Kuo strives to craft images that are honest, intuitive, and alive—seeking growth through meaningful collaboration with underrepresented voices.
