Bala Govind Kumar

Bala Govind Kumar is a Production Designer and Art Director with a Master’s degree in Production Design from the American Film Institute (AFI).

Originally from India, Bala is an accomplished architect and self-taught artist who began his career as an assistant art director, gaining four years of professional experience in the Indian film industry.

He has brought his creative vision to over 10 independent short films as a production designer and has worked as a set designer and assistant art director on more than 6 feature films in India, along with several commercials.

His production design work has earned over 15 major film festival nominations, including recent recognition at the Tribeca Film Festival for one of his latest short films.

Bala brings to every project a refined artistic sensibility, strong leadership, and a collaborative approach. He is also a 2025 member of the Production Design Initiative (PDI) at the Art Directors Guild (ADG).
